Imran Ghafur’s family requests prayer for his release and for the needs of the family. He is currently serving a life sentence on a conviction of burning a Quran. Imran’s brother Naveed told VOM contacts that the entire family was able to visit him before Easter and that Imran continues to read his Bible, fast and pray. His attorney has filed an appeal with the Pakistan High Court, but no hearing date has been set. VOM has regular contact with Imran’s family, offering prayer and encouragement.

A powerful new earthquake rattled Nepal on Tuesday (May 12), killing at least 36 people and sending thousands more rushing to the streets.
The 7.3-magnitude quake came just 17 days after a massive earthquake killed 8,046 people and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. Tuesday's tremor set off a series of landslides at the epicenter, Namche Bazar, which is near Mount Everest. Today's earthquake will add to the dismal statistics as rescue workers once again begin the arduous task of digging out... ...Francis Horton, who is coordinating the earthquake response for BGR, said one of his teams was on the mountain when the quake hit. As they descended in their truck, they found a house newly collapsed on the side of the road. They stopped to offer help. Thankfully, the family was outside their home when it fell, and the team was able to provide some comfort for scared villagers. "This quake really brought back nightmarish memories for many people," Horton said. "Immediately, businesses shut doors and buildings emptied into the streets." Today's quake hit 47 miles east of the capital of Kathmandu on the way to Everest Base Camp. It could be felt as far away as Delhi, India, and Dhaka, Bangladesh. Landslides cut off roads to the main town in this isolated, conservation area near the border of Tibet. One local Nepali pastor asked for prayer as reports of two major landslides have caused havoc in the area on top of damage from the today's earthquake... The devastating earthquake that occurred near Kathmandu, Nepal, on Saturday, April 25, has affected millions of people, including VOM field staff. Although none of our workers were physically harmed in the earthquake, one of our Nepali team members lost his home. He and his family are among the thousands now living in tents. With everyone accounted for, our team immediately began to assess how to continue advancing the kingdom among those affected by the earthquake. With such widespread devastation, we know the Christian community in Nepal will need our long-term help. As our Nepali workers and volunteers continue to serve others while dealing with their own losses, please lift them up in prayer.
Miriam awoke from her Saturday nap on April 25 with a start. Since she was up, the elderly Nepali woman decided to begin her daily noontime prayer 15 minutes early.
She lifted her normal requests heavenward -- asking God to give her husband health; watching over her adult son; tidbits from people requesting her intercession; and asking for her neighbors and her country of Nepal to know Jesus. Eleven minutes into her conversation with God, a loud noise cracked throughout the mud-brick home. "I thought it was a car," Miriam said with a giggle one week after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake. "But then the house started shaking and everyone was screaming, 'EARTHQUAKE! EARTHQUAKE!'" Her husband came to get her out of the second-story bedroom but she refused to move and refused to stop praying. Miriam knew that she, a leper with no fingers or legs, could do more good by praying to God for her country's protection than going outside to safety. Her husband only argued once, then sat on the floor and joined her. "I wasn't scared. Even when people yelled for me to go downstairs, I told them I was staying," Miriam said, emphatically thumping her well-worn Bible. "God knows what He is doing." And He wanted her to pray, so she shouted Scripture to the heavens above the loud rumbling of the earthquake and the aftershocks that shook the nation for hours... Video footage at the moment the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 is rare. What is showing via social media and the main networks came from a Wycliffe Associates partner. Bruce Smith, Wycliffe Associates president and CEO, details how they came by the video. Their ministry partner “just happened to be at a place, at a time where he had the vantage point that could see over the whole city when the earthquake occurred. There may not be other similar footage existing.”
In less than two minutes, the viewer gets a hint at the scope of destruction as the shaky cell phone video scans the Monkey Temple grounds, the hillside, and further on, a collapsing Kathmandu. Nepal’s Prime Minister estimates the death toll could go as high as 10,000. Thousands are still missing. With communications down in most places, the unknown creates a miasma of fear. “We’re fortunate that we’ve been able to communicate with our people. A lot of communications have been disrupted. Cell phone systems are working in Kathmandu, but a lot of people’s batteries have run out because electricity has been unreliable...” Pray for Pastor's Daughter, Attacked and Traumatized 464 Prayers Have Been Posted at iCommitToPray Five Muslims attacked a pastor’s teenage daughter because the pastor ignored their warnings to stop worship services.
