
Christians 'Fearful' as Elections Begin at Release International
"Christians in India are fearful that the country's general elections, which begin today, may lead to a rise in persecution of religious minorities.
"Opinion polls suggest a victory for the opposition National Democratic Alliance, led by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, is currently chief minister of Gujarat. He was widely criticised for failing to prevent the massacre of more than 2,000 Muslims in the state in 2002."
