Please pray God’s peace over our brothers, pastors Hassan Abduraheem and Kowa Shamaal, Abdulmonem Abdumawla and Petr Jašek.
Sudanese officials accuse the four men of funding rebel movements in areas such as Darfur and South Kordofan, and have charged them with at least seven crimes. Two of the charges are ‘waging war against the state’ and spying, crimes that carry a potential death sentence.
Three of the men appear to have been targeted for their involvement with a Darfuri student who was badly injured in a demonstration. The two pastors, Hassan and Kowa, are from the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan – an area where the Government is continuing a military offensive against rebel targets.
Their case was raised in the European Parliament last week, through a resolution signed by several members.
Sudan continues to be a tough place to be a Christian. Six Evangelical Christians were arrested in Wad Medani, in east-central Sudan, on Sunday for refusing to hand over a church-run school to the Government. All six were later released on bail. Meanwhile, five churches in Khartoum, from a range of denominations, have been notified their buildings are to be demolished and the land ‘assigned for investment’.
- Pray that God will fill our brothers, Hassan, Kowa, Abdulmonem and Petr, with His peace and his grace.
- Pray for the judges assigned to their case: pray that they will uphold justice and not be swayed by any anti-Christian agenda, and that the accused will be released soon.
- Pray that Christians across Sudan will stand firm in their faith and put their faith in God alone, as persecution intensifies.
