All Alone Together: The Tragedy Of Superficial Relationships At Church

by Bryon Yawn
Cross Walk
We need to be known.

Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.
Ephesians 4:25

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
Philippians 1:9

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
1 John 4:18

Are you truly known by your brothers and sisters in Christ?

"Sunday services are the smallest part of your participation in the church. The greater exposure to the Body of Christ happens outside of Sunday morning’s service throughout the week.

"
Multiple members of your church would be the first people on the scene if you should experience a great need or personal tragedy.

"Due to exposure people exist who can read your life well enough to inquire about the condition of your soul. And they cannot be “snowed” by casual answers.

"
You are currently on someone’s prayer list. Someone else is on yours..."

All Alone Together: The Tragedy Of Superficial Relationships At Church

by Bryon Yawn
Cross Walk
"The church is the last place humanity should be allowed to anonymously pass by each other. As Christians we live in the eyes-wide-open panorama of the cross of Christ."

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

No longer stumbling about in the pervasive darkness blind to the sin that plagues our existence. We now walk in the light. We see each other clearly with all our common ailments.

Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light.
Ephesians 5:7-8

"From our common confession springs sympathy and compassion. Rather than reject each other, we welcome each other into a common life of brokenness, grace, forgiveness and transformation. No one passes by unknown or unaccepted. There is no longer a need to hide our brokenness. There is nothing left for us to hide (for all is known) and no reason to hide it (for all is forgiven). There is no need to put on our “Sunday best.”  We are free to confess our weakness one to another without fear of condemnation... Or, are we?"

The righteous cry, and the LORD hears And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:17-18

"But, we are not “fine” and we know it. We are all fallen people."

...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:23

"All our silence is needless and destructive."

"When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD;" And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 32:3-5

GOD Is My Helper

"There is no situation too great for God. There is no heart too hard for God. There is no budget too tight for God. There is no boss too difficult for God. God is your helper! He is my helper! Those four words change every situation. Do you need wisdom today? God is your helper. Do you need strength today? God is your helper. Do you need patience today? God is your helper. If God is your helper, that changes everything."

Four Words That Change Every Situation
by Stephen Altrogge
Bible Study Tools

Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your power. Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen against me And violent men have sought my life; They have not set God before them. Selah.

Behold, God is my helper;

The Lord is the sustainer of my soul. He will recompense the evil to my foes; Destroy them in Your faithfulness. Willingly I will sacrifice to You; I will give thanks to Your name, O LORD, for it is good. For He has delivered me from all trouble, And my eye has looked with satisfaction upon my enemies.

Psalm 54

Bible Smuggling

Vision Beyond Borders
"...As we treasure God's Word in our own lives, we naturally want to share it with the world around us! For many the hope of owning their own Bible seems impossible.

"In China, Believers often share one copy of the Bible. Each person receives a page, and when they have memorized it, they get back together to exchange their portion of the Bible. In most Muslim countries Christians risk death for sharing copies of God's Word. It is only the truth of God's Word that penetrates the darkness and hopelessness of fear and oppression that reign in these countries.

"We believe it is imperative we share this message of hope and love with the world! In countries where Bibles are illegal, this means "smuggling" them into the Christians! We do so with short-term missions teams who volunteer to go over with a team leader. We then carry the Bibles through customs.

"It is amazing to see how God literally opens doors to provide safe passage for His Word. It is seldom the same thing twice, but we continually witness miracle after miracle as teams go through with Bibles. Once, a team arrived and customs agents were really going through everything. It was apparent it would take a miracle to get through with the precious cargo. Shortly after arriving the electricity went out and none of the x-ray machines worked. The agents began inspecting everything by hand. Shortly after that, four large tour buses arrived and people started packing the customs office. Agents began to simply wave people through to deal with the confusion. As the team left the building and got to the street, the power came back on!"

Ancient Rock Churches Put Ethiopia Back On Tourist Map

by David Smith, Lalibela
The Guardian
"...Lalibela – described by Hilary Bradt, the travel guide author, as "the number one sight in Ethiopia and perhaps the most astonishing man-made site in sub-Saharan Africa" – is crucial to a drive by officials to banish images of famine and conflict, and turn the east African country into a fashionable destination. A "tourism master plan" is being finalised to boost visitor numbers, which are already growing by 10% a year.

"Gezahegne, 22, an academic at Addis Ababa University, was making her first pilgrimage to Lalibela one recent Sunday and was in no doubt about its potential to attract Christians and non-believers alike. "Most people know about the famine but not the historic sites," she said. "If the tourism bureau can advertise it, it can be a good source of income."

"The 11 Ethiopian Orthodox churches here have to be seen – and walked through – to be believed. They were built in the 13th century on the orders of King Lalibela, not from the ground up but chiselled out of the town's red volcanic rock hills. Legend has it that the toil of thousands of labourers on this "new Jerusalem" during the day was continued by angels at night.

"The last church to be completed, the Bet Giyorgis, or Church of St George, is shaped like a cross, freestanding inside a deep pit, so to reach the entrance visitors must climb down awkward, crowded stone steps. Inside, among the bibles, candles and holy water, there are intricate carvings and reliefs of exquisite detail..."
