Pastor Collapses

Moments after finishing his Sunday sermon, a pastor stepped behind the church stage, collapsed, and was later pronounced dead from a “cardiac event.”

The death of Eddie Crain, the children’s pastor at NorthPointe Community Church in Fresno, California, shocked the Northpointe congregation ... Crain leaves behind his wife and five sons.

Northpointe pastor Steve Williams spoke very highly of Crain:

"We don't get over our grief, we get through it. We can have confidence that God walks through this with us,"

"In Hebrews 13 God promises that, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we can confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'

"We can trust that God is good. Even when there are so many questions we just don't have the answers for — about why, why now, and what's the meaning in this? Everything that we know about God leads us to trust all that we don't understand about God.

"We're in uncharted waters as a church family, but we know that Jesus goes with us. And that we will do this together."

Pray for Dasilve Sondakh, Pastor of a Closed Church

The Indonesia Pentecostal “Agape” Church in Surabaya, Indonesia, was closed on Nov. 8, 2015, after neighbors told the city’s mayor that the church did not have permission from the neighborhood to operate as a church. According to Indonesian law, churches must obtain permission from 60 percent of the neighbors to operate. Pastor Dasilve Sondakh told VOM workers that the church’s building permit has been revoked; the church was founded in 2008. The approximately 200 church members are now worshiping at the nearby Central Pentecostal Church.

Christian on Run from Muslim Relatives
Prayer Alert, November 23rd, 2015
Release International
Picture
Please pray for a brother in Christ in Kenya who has had to leave his family and flee his home for fear of being killed.

Hassan Ali says his in-laws were among a group of men armed with knives who came to his door in Witu, Lamu County, earlier this month, demanding to see him. He escaped through a window when he heard the visitors questioning his wife about her faith.

His wife and their children, aged seven and four, have been taken back to live with her relatives. Her parents are reportedly insisting the children attend a madrassa (Islamic school).

Hassan was raised as a Muslim but became a Christian about ten months ago. He believes that local Muslims may have noted his lack of attendance at the local mosque.

Meanwhile, two weeks previously, Islamist extremists set fire to two church buildings in Tiribe near Mombasa on October 30.

Pastor Mutuku of Faith Victory Church says his congregation now meet in a tent. Pastor Nyawa of Holistic Church says most of his members have left the church: the remainder are now forced to meet outside, under police protection, but are contending with heavy rains and flooding.
  • Pray that Hassan can be reunited with his family and that they will be able to live out their Christian faith in freedom.
  • Please pray with Hassan that his wife will stand firm in her faith in Christ, even as she is pressured by relatives to recant her faith.
  • Pray for members of Faith Victory and Holistic churches in Tiribe. Pray that God will provide new premises and bless them with new members and fruitful ministries.

Pray for Felisha John, Victim of Boko Haram Terrorist Attack

Felisha John, 26, sustained serious burns on her arms and legs as a result of an Islamist terrorist attack on her school in 2014. She is currently scheduled for a second surgery to help improve mobility and reduce scarring. Felisha was at the College of Business and Management in Maiduguri, Borno state, when Boko Haram militants attacked the school’s female dormitory in February 2014. They separated Muslims from Christians before allowing the Muslims to leave. As Felisha and the other Christian women prayed, they were set on fire inside the dormitory.  Pray for Felisha as she continues to recover from the burns she suffered in the attack.

Pray for "Abdul" Facing Hostility from Muslim Neighbors

A Young Man Receives a Bible
After "Abdul" and his family came to Christ in a predominantly Muslim area of Uganda, they faced persecution from villagers and Muslim leaders. Local leaders came to his defense, and for the most part, the harassment ended. However, still fearful that they are being watched, Abdul and his family decided to be baptized in another village. A VOM worker says a strong discipleship team located in the region continues to see people like Abdul and his family come to Christ in spite of the risk of persecution. Some converts come openly to church events, but the team also meets secretly with believers who have not yet told their Muslim families about their new faith.

Voice of the Martyrs

Raji was a member of an extremist Hindu group that targeted Christians. He despised the young Christian preacher who kept visiting his village to share the gospel. “We don’t want to hear about your Jesus,” he told Suta. VOM’s 2015 IDOP video tells the story of how Suta’s faithfulness and the Holy Spirit’s conviction eventually led Raji, who once persecuted Christians, to embrace Christ.
This story will inspire you to pray not only for persecuted Christians
but also for those who persecute them.
