Lamb of God

Agnus Dei

Based upon John the Baptist's reference in John 1:29 to Jesus, "Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world."

The text in Latin is:

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

which means:

Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

"Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish."

O Death!

Please read Competing Prayers, by Alistair Begg, at One Place.

"O death! Why do you touch the tree beneath whose spreading branches weariness finds rest? Why do you snatch away the excellent of the earth, in whom is all our delight? If you must use your axe, use it upon the trees that yield no fruit; then you may be thanked. But why will you chop down the best trees? Hold your axe, and spare the righteous.

"But no, it must not be; death strikes the best of our friends: the most generous, the most prayerful, the most holy, the most devoted must die. And why? It is through Jesus' prevailing prayer:

"Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world."  John 17:24

"Lord, You shall have them. By faith we let them go."

Now What?

"If you prayed that prayer with me then your life is forever changed because you have become a child of God. And God … He wants to bless you, to help you through your struggles and to lead you into the plans that He has for you.

"And believe you me, they are good plans. Great plans.

"So, if you’ve just given your life to Jesus Christ, you may be wondering … so now what? What comes next? What should I do?

"Just about everybody has those questions, so I’ve recorded 10 short messages in a series called exactly that: So Now What?"

PictureGod Inviting Christ to Sit on the Throne at His Right Hand, Pieter de Grebber, 1645

Inspired by Menes Abdul-Noor, a gifted writer from Egypt, Day by Day with the Persecuted Church, compiled by Jan Pit at One Place

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."
John 15:7

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5

"You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you."
John 15:3

"After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.'
Acts 13:22

What the wicked fears will come upon him, But the desire of the righteous will be granted.
Proverbs 10:24

"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."
John 14:13-14

'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 'I will be found by you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.'
Jeremiah 29:12-14

Encouraging One Another

PictureGather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May, John William Waterhouse, 1908

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:19-25

If you have difficulty cultivating joy, this article will surely help you. God wants nothing more than our joy, our delight in His every way. Please read 7 Ways to Cultivate Joy, by Chuck Swindoll, at Bible Study Tools.

"Want more joy in your day? Cultivate it! Joy springs from viewing the day's events from eternity's perspective. With this intentional focus, you're sure to see today differently — with more joy and conviction that God is at work in your life."

"Remember, joy springs from viewing the day's events from eternity's perspective. Trust that God controls your life's details (Romans 8:28), that He hears your every request (Psalms 116:1), and that His joy will be your strength (Nehemiah 8:10)."

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28

I love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my supplications.
Psalm 116:1

Then he said to them, "Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Nehemiah 8:10

"Georgia lawmakers approved a bill this week to place [a] granite Ten Commandments monument at the state capitol.

"H.B. 702 cleared the Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 40-10, mostly along party lines. It had passed the House the week prior by a vote of 138-37..."

“'...Knowing that we put ‘In God We Trust’ on our money, and we are a Judeo-Christian nation, and we are proud of those beliefs, wouldn’t you further agree that if a private party wants to put a statue with private funds to honor God and his commandments that we as a legislature should support that?” he asked Democratic Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson."

God's Blessings

PictureJacob Blessing Ephraim and Manasseh, Benjamin West, 1766-68

Please read Expecting God's Blessings, by DR Tony Evans, Urban Alternative, at One Place.

"God honors those who honor Him, and God wants you to expect to be blessed. If you are a Christian, you’ve already been blessed “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3). And if God can trust you to be generous with the earthly treasures He’s given you, He won’t forget where it started, and it will come back around to you."

"Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure - pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."
Luke 6:38

Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
Mark 10:29-30

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Ephesians 1:3

knowing that whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free.
Ephesians 6:8

According to Your Lovingkindness, O LORD

PictureMaide of Most Beautiful Things, Sophie Anderson, 1869

"It’s tough to be optimistic when slogging through hard times. Some try to grin and bear it; others crack under the pressure. But Christians can have a different perspective:  awaiting a future glory that makes our present suffering infinitesimal in comparison."

Teach me to let go of the things I have done wrong in the past, Lord. Cleanse me and prepare me for the wonderful life that is to come. May I learn from my mistakes and grow from them, without allowing them to control my life, O Lord. Amen.

Prayer and text from Wisdom from the Psalms, Daily Thoughts and Meditations, at One Place.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; According to Your lovingkindness remember me, For Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

Psalm 25:7
