PicturePicture and Text from Berni Dymet's Christianity Works

"Contentment is something of a “Holy Grail” for many a person. Why can’t I be at peace? Why don’t I have that quiet, warm sense of contentment? Those are questions that many people are asking. And why not? After all, God places such a high value on bringing contentment into our lives. The question is, Where do you get it? How do you get it? Join Berni Dymet in this brand new series as he takes a look at contentment, from a whole different perspective!"

Supplication

PictureMary Magdaline Praying, by Ary Sheffer

El Hayyay – the God of my life – be very close to me. Open my ears to hear you. Soften my heart to discern your Spirit. Help my eyes to recognize when you are weaving something in my life. Turn my frustration and anger away from people who seem to me to be obstacles in my life, El Hayyay, and help me to know that you are sovereign – that nothing happens to me that doesn’t first pass through your hands. Kings see you and bow down. I pray that I will live each moment in that same spirit of honor and humility before the God who knows what steps I should take, and who guides me.

Sufficient Grace

PictureSpace 2, by Natalia Rudzina

My grace is sufficient, O lost one!
Thy soul to redeem from its woe,
To give you a perfect salvation,
To keep you wherever you go.

My grace is sufficient, O weak one!
The bondage of sin to remove;
My strength is made perfect in weakness,
Then seek for this strength from above.

My grace is sufficient, I tried one!
To meet every testing and need;
Whatever may be the requirement,
My grace is sufficient indeed.

My grace is sufficient, O dear one!
Yes, even for death's trying hour;
This foe I have met and vanquished;
No need, then, to fear its dread power.

The Eyes Of Your Heart

PictureThe Good Shephard, Bernhard Plockhorst, 19TH Century

"Going through difficult times, if it does nothing else for you and to you, will open the eyes of your heart. Walking through troubled waters is one way that God has of shifting your vision. When your heart breaks, there’s an avenue for God’s compassion to trickle in and envelop your heart with His. You’ll begin to look at others through the eyes of your heart and not through the eyes of quick judgment, harsh conclusions, or self-interest."

The Eyes Of Your Heart, by Stephen Arterburn and David Stoop,
The Life Recovery Devotional: Thirty Meditations In Scripture For Each Step In Recovery, at One Place

For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

Ephesians 1:15-18

Oh give thanks to the LORD,
call upon His name;
Make known His deeds

among the peoples.
Sing  to Him,

sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.

Glory in His holy name;

Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER
(which is the first commandment with a promise),
SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU,
AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.

Ephesians 6:1-3

Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring

Word of God.

All You Who Hope In The Lord

PictureSistine Madonna, Raphael, 1512

How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of men! You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. Blessed be the LORD, For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city. As for me, I said in my alarm, "I am cut off from before Your eyes;" Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried to You. O love the LORD, all you His godly ones!

The LORD preserves the faithful And fully recompenses the proud doer. Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD.

Psalm 31:19-24
