Israeli archaeologists said on Monday they had discerned biblical writing on a charred 1,500-year-old parchment with the help of digital imaging and described the text as the oldest found since the Dead Sea Scrolls.

U.S. and Israeli researchers made the discovery using advanced medical and digital technology to examine the object, first unearthed 45 years ago when then-standard forensics could not decipher any script on the scroll...

"...After the Dead Sea Scrolls, this has been the most significant find of an ancient Bible," said Shor, referring to hundreds of ancient texts found in the late 1940s near the shores of the inland sea for whom the scrolls were named.

Scientists estimate that the Dead Sea Scrolls, widely considered the oldest written biblical fragments ever found, date to between the third century B.C. and 70 A.D...

...Archaeologist Sefi Porat, 75, co-director of the dig, said the scroll dated to around the year 600 and turned up inside the remains of an ancient synagogue, which he chanced upon while exploring ceramic tiles at the beachside site...

His Right Hand

Sister Chen

The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand. (Psalm 121:5)

Sister Chen

Difficulties, as high as mountains, come rushing towards me. Strong waves dash against my heel. When the power of darkness focuses on me to attack my faith, I lift my eyes to the hills and ask the Lord for help. He speaks to me, "My strength is made perfect in the weakness of men." This is always a wonderful paradox. I therefore worship His way, with tears.

The greatest joy in my life is to be under the protection of the Holy Spirit, freely walking in and out between the gap of the lion's teeth. I am in the shelter of the right hand of the Almighty, so that the devil cannot touch me. With His grace I can have victory over strong winds and high waves, defeating the attacking enemy.

The Lord is our shade at our right hand. You see the shade when you walk in the light. When there are clouds you may not be able to see that shade clearly ... but it is still there … because He watches over our lives. He will watch over our coming and going, both now and forever more.

Sister Chen is from China and is a pillar of God's house in this vast land. Due to security reasons, we cannot introduce her further to you, but her testimony speaks for itself.

Abiding in the Fields

Shepherds Abiding in the Fields of Lesotho

...AIM’s “Team Shepherd” is serving the shepherd boys of Lesotho through the Training In Mission Outreach (TIMO) program. TIMO places a team of new missionaries under the leadership of an experienced missionary or missionary couple. While each team is different, they all share the same 12 core values, one of which is to learn the local language and culture.

Team Shepherd learned Sesotho. Lacking literacy, the Shepherds have an oral culture of songs and stories. The team wants to share stories of Jesus in this manner–a powerful witness. Along the way, there’s delightful creativity and friendship blooming in a harsh environment.

For their part, the herdboys have accepted the newcomers. They enjoy eating with them, playing games, having stick fights, shepherding herds of sheep together, and teaching the team the language.

In an AIM Facebook update, Eekhoff explains that the herdboys enjoy music and dancing. To that end, he writes, “I have a long way to go in learning the latter, but I am really excited to share music with them. One particular shepherd, Matlanya, is very skilled; and he is rarely seen roaming the highlands without his homemade 3-string. I am in the process of learning the basics of open-tuned 3-string guitar playing from Matlanya and have almost finished constructing my own. For me, sharing music with the shepherds has been a highlight of the ministry here...”

Seek His Face Continually

Joshua Passing the River Jordan with the Ark of the Covenant, Benjamin West, 1800
Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments from His mouth,
O seed of Israel His servant,
Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
Remember His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,
The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac.
He also confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan,
As the portion of your inheritance.”
When they were only a few in number,
Very few, and strangers in it,
And they wandered about from nation to nation,
And from one kingdom to another people,

He permitted no man to oppress them,
And He reproved kings for their sakes, saying,
“Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
He also is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and joy are in His place.
Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him;
Worship the Lord in holy array.
Tremble before Him, all the earth;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
Let the sea roar, and all it contains;
Let the field exult, and all that is in it.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord;
For He is coming to judge the earth.
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Then say, “Save us, O God of our salvation,
And gather us and deliver us from the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
And glory in Your praise.”
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting.
